Cichla temensis are not as prolific as C. orinocensis in the rivers I have explored. They are very rare to find. It took me over a decade to get close enough to one to take a picture. The few times I got a chance to see them underwater, they would flee quickly before I could lift my camera.
The specimen in the picture approached me and posed many times at an approximate depth of 3 meters. I was smiling happily as I held my breath and clicked away. Some fish have that curiosity switch turned on; they come and check you out. When they notice you are not a threat, they pose for the picture.
