Part of my tribute to the Amazon this weekend at ExpoAcuario Queretaro, Mexico.

The discus fish (Symphysodon sp.) is a cichlid native to the basin of the Amazon River. It is commonly called the king of aquarium fish for its striking coloration.
Its body is tall, round, with compressed sides reminescent of the shape of a disc. Their young feed on the secretion of their parents’ skin.

The discuss are gregarious fish that maintain a hierarchy within the group. There is always a dominant individual, usually a male or even a couple that is dedicated to protecting a territory.
