Biotope from La Macarena, Colombia. Part of my tribute to the Amazon this weekend at ExpoAcuario Queretaro Mexico.
Caño Cristales is a small river with crystal clear waters that is located in the rainforest of La Macarena, Colombia.
The pH of the water is acid (4.6 – 6.1) and with a very low amount of dissolved minerals.
In this Caño inhabit many species of fish appreciated by
aquarists worldwide like the wolf fish and dwarf cichlids but the
that stands out the most is the Macarenia clavigera, a red aquatic plant endemic to Caño Cristales.
